Optimal Armrest Design
Problem
Getting up out of a chair gets harder as we get older. If you need someone to help you get up out of a chair, your quality of life is considerably reduced and your caregiver’s workload goes up.
Goal
To find a better design for armrests to make the sit to stand activity easier.
Progress
Regina has designed an adjustable armrest testing device (shown below) that will allow us to study the biomechanics of the sit-to-stand movement with older adults using armrests of different heights, positions and designs. With Colin’s help Regina is now in the process of machining parts for the device.
