Vicki Komisar

Vicki joined the Home and Community Team in September of 2011 for her PhD studies in Biomedical Engineering, after completing her BASc in Engineering Science at the University of Toronto and her MSc in Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London. Her research focuses on understanding how we can prevent falls and related injuries by designing our built environment (e.g. handrails, stairs) more safely. Separately, she has also co-led the development and testing of two novel mobility aids: StandEasy Pole System for institutions, and MoveEasy Pole System for the home. Both products were recently launched on the market.

Vicki also maintains a strong interest in outreach and education, having developed and run a course in Rehabilitation Engineering for high school students for two summers in a row through the University of Toronto’s DEEP Summer Academy. Her future goals include continuing with research, development and teaching in the biomedical and rehabilitation fields.
